Copy Filenames command

The Copy Filenames command copies the names of all the selected files and folders to the clipboard as text.

If a single file or folder is selected, then just its name is copied to the clipboard. If multiple files or folders are selected, then all the selected filenames are copied to the clipboard, one filename per line.

If a folder is selected, then you will have the option to copy the names of the files inside the folder instead of the name of the folder. Hold down the CTRL key while selecting the Copy Filenames command to select this option from the Folder Options panel.

The reason that this command is a built-in command rather than simply being a user-defined command that copies the filename is that this command provides additional functionality when the CTRL or SHIFT key modifiers are held while selecting the command (see below).

Sort order

When multiple files or folders are selected, then by default CopyFilenames Pro will copy the names in the same order that they are shown in Windows Explorer. However, to keep this ordering it is important that you right click on the topmost selected file or folder in Windows Explorer when bringing up the context menu to select the Copy Filenames command. This is because the file or folder you right click on will always be first in the list, with the remaining selected files and folders in the same order, wrapping from the bottom back to the top. This behaviour comes from Windows Explorer itself, so it is not possible for CopyFilenames Pro to know which file should be first if you have right clicked on a different one.

The default sort order can be overridden from the Options Panel.
